When Henri Quan and Oanh Tran opened Hochi Mini in December 2019, their goal was to share the comforting, authentic flavours of Vietnam with the local community. What began as a dream to bring Oanh’s home-style cooking to life has become a much-loved local favourite for those seeking flavourful, honest food served with warmth.
“My wife has always been a passionate cook,” Henri explains. “She’s completely self-taught and every dish on the menu comes from her own recipes, inspired by Vietnam, and refined through her creativity and care.”
Together, Henri and Oanh have created a space that blends authenticity with comfort, where every meal feels like it’s been cooked just for you.
Fresh, flavourful, and made from scratch
At Hochi Mini, everything revolves around flavour and freshness. Every dish is made from scratch, using Oanh’s original recipes that strike the perfect balance between authentic Vietnamese taste and a comforting, home-style feel. From steaming bowls of pho to hearty banh mi and fresh noodle bowls, each plate is a reflection of the couple’s pride and attention to detail.
“We believe in keeping things simple and genuine,” says Henri. “We serve food that’s made with care, and we welcome people like they’re part of our home.” Their values of honesty, hard work, and family shape everything they do, from the food on the table to the way they greet every customer who walks through the door.

“Our customers often tell us they love that the food tastes fresh and authentic,” Henri says. “They appreciate the consistency, the flavours don’t lie.”
It’s this combination of quality, value, and hospitality that has earned Hochi Mini such loyal regulars, many of whom have been coming since the café first opened.

Located on Burwood Highway, Hochi Mini has become a go-to spot for locals craving authentic Vietnamese food close to home. Henri and Oanh say being part of the Ferntree Gully community has been one of the most rewarding parts of their journey.
“People here are incredibly supportive,” Henri shares. “They value small businesses and appreciate the hard work that goes into what we do. That support keeps us motivated every day.” Many customers have become friends over the years, and it’s this sense of connection that makes Hochi Mini such a special part of the neighbourhood.
Looking ahead
As for the future, Henri and Oanh’s goals are simple, to keep doing what they love, and to continue growing a place where people feel welcome and well-fed.
“We’re proud of what we’ve built,” Henri says. “We just want people to know that our food comes from the heart, made fresh, made with love, and made to be shared.”
