'Down on His Luck' (2002; 2013) by Kevin Gilders and placemakers, located in the Ferntree Gully Village Square Garden bed at the corner of Alpine Street and Station Street. The large outdoor wooden statue depicts an older man sitting with his head resting on his hand, surrounded by lush green plants and trees. Commonly referred to by locals as �‘Swagman’ ‘The Thinker’ or ‘The Pioneer’, the original pine sculpture from 2002 was replaced with a red gum version in 2013.
