Play, picnic, and celebrate at Wally Tew Reserve

Wally Tew Reserve Ferntree Gully

Located in the leafy surrounds of Ferntree Gully, Wally Tew Reserve is one of Knox’s most cherished public spaces, a place where nature, recreation, and community spirit come together. Named after Walter Harry Tew, Knox’s first mayor and a passionate advocate for local sport and community life, the reserve is steeped in local history and pride 1.

The reserve features two sporting ovals, including one built on the site of a former shire tip, an idea championed by Wally Tew himself. Today, the W.H. Tew Pavilion, a two-storey community facility, stands as a tribute to his legacy and continues to support local cricket and football clubs.

Visitors can enjoy:

  • A forest-themed all-abilities playground that sparks imagination and adventure

  • Gravel walking tracks perfect for a stroll or dog walk

  • Picnic areas with BBQs, public toilets, and shaded seating

  • A designated off-lead dog area for furry companions to roam freely

  • Wally Tew Reserve is also the proud home of Knox Festival, a major annual event that brings the community together with music, food, and family-friendly entertainment 2.

Whether you're attending a local match, enjoying a weekend picnic, or simply soaking in the natural beauty, Wally Tew Reserve is a vibrant and welcoming space for all.
