A passion for hospitality

When Nero opened Spade 9 Café in March 2024, she brought with her years of experience in hospitality. Having worked as a chef, manager, and barista across a range of restaurants and cafés, Nero had long dreamed of running her own business. After previously owning a café in Geelong, she decided it was time to plant roots closer to home in Melbourne. Together with her niece, she launched Spade 9, and today, Nero proudly runs it on her own, pouring her heart into every cup of coffee and every customer interaction.

More than just coffee

At Spade 9, the focus goes far beyond food and drinks, it’s about people. Regulars are greeted by name (or at least by their coffee order), seniors are offered a sweet treat as a token of appreciation, and dog owners love that their furry friends are treated to free pupacinos and fresh water.

It’s these small gestures that make Spade 9 stand out as a café with true heart, built on the values of warmth, quality, and genuine hospitality.

A welcoming customer experience

Walking into Spade 9 feels like walking into a friend’s home. The team makes an effort to remember faces and orders, creating a sense of belonging for every visitor. Customers appreciate not just the delicious food and coffee, but the personalised service that makes each visit special. It’s the kind of café where people linger a little longer, soaking in the welcoming atmosphere.

Proudly part of Wantirna South

Nestled along the Wantirna South shopping strip, Spade 9 is surrounded by a supportive local business community. The café also extends as a meeting space for local businesses nearby, offering a relaxed setting away from the office. True to its community-first spirit, Nero also looks out for locals in need, whether it’s offering a free coffee or letting someone pay later, no questions asked.

Looking ahead

Spade 9 isn’t just about today, it’s about growing with the community. Nero hopes to expand catering services and host more events, like Hoppers Night and Kottu Night, while introducing fun, family-friendly activities such as face painting. She also wants more people to know that Spade 9 is a fantastic spot for small functions, making it the perfect place for relaxed gatherings over great food and coffee.
