Pop Culture Larrikin – Bayswater
Step inside Pop Culture Larrikin in Bayswater and you’ll quickly realise, it’s a community hub for pop culture lovers . It’s a place where fans, collectors, and families come together to celebrate creativity, nostalgia, and connection.
Founded by Luke, Pop Culture Larrikin began as an online store in 2023 before opening its physical doors in 2024. With a background in retail management and graphic design, Luke used his experience to bring to life the kind of business he always wished existed, a safe, inclusive space for people from all walks of life to embrace their inner child and share their love for all things pop culture.
“I wanted to build a place where everyone feels welcome, no matter who they are or what they’re into,” Luke says. “Pop culture is about connection, fun, and belonging, and that’s what we’re all about.”
A universe of fun and connection
Inside the vibrant store on Church Street, you’ll find everything from trading cards, Squishmallows, and collectible figures to Loungefly bags, board games, and unique apparel, many designed by local artists.
At the heart of Pop Culture Larrikin is a strong sense of community. The team regularly hosts weekly game nights that welcome both beginners and seasoned players, offering a space to relax, connect, and have fun in an inclusive environment.
For Luke, it’s about more than selling great products, it’s supporting local community. “We make sure locals can access the things they love, especially when it comes to popular items like Pokémon trading cards, which can be hard to find. Our goal is to keep the fun in the hobby and make it accessible for everyone.”
A supportive community that gives back
Since opening in Bayswater, Pop Culture Larrikin has grown into a beloved local destination. What started as a small space has grown multiple times to accommodate new stock, local artists, and the growing community of fans who now call it their second home.
Luke says the support from locals has been heartwarming. “We worked really hard to bring something special to Bayswater, but what surprised me most was how much the community gave back. Customers go out of their way to help each other, offering advice, sharing collections, or simply cheering someone on during a game night. It’s incredible to see.”
Creativity, customisation, and going the extra mile
Pop Culture Larrikin also offers custom-made gifts, from t-shirts and prints to stickers and even custom furniture! If you can dream it, Luke and his team will do their best to make it happen.
“We love when someone walks in with a creative idea,” Luke says. “We design and make much of our apparel right here in the store using artwork from local artists. And if we don’t have something in stock, chances are we can order it in. Just because you can’t see it on the shelf doesn’t mean it’s not available.”
What’s next for Pop Culture Larrikin?
With plans to expand both the store and its community events, Luke hopes Pop Culture Larrikin will continue to be a space where creativity and connection thrive.
“Bayswater has been amazing to us,” he says. “We want to keep giving back, through more events, more collaborations, and more ways for people to connect. Because at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.”
