The Grand Monarque – Boronia

Located on Boronia Road, The Grand Monarque is a vibrant Sri Lankan Australian fusion restaurant bringing bold flavours, warm hospitality, and a strong sense of community to the heart of Boronia. Owned by Chaminda and Naveen, the restaurant has quickly become a local favourite since opening just five months ago.
A vision rooted in culture and passion
The vision behind The Grand Monarque was simple yet meaningful, to create a trusted dining destination that blends authentic Sri Lankan flavours with modern Australian influences. For Chaminda, food has always been deeply connected to family, celebration, and culture.
Growing up in Sri Lanka, the preparation and sharing of food played a central role in everyday life. This early connection inspired a lifelong passion for hospitality. In his early twenties, Chaminda studied at the Ceylon Hotel School, gaining formal qualifications in restaurant and bar service as well as housekeeping.
While he went on to successfully run a commercial cleaning business for over 20 years, the pull towards food and hospitality never faded. Eventually, that passion became a calling, leading to the creation of The Grand Monarque.
A dining experience for everyone
Customers can expect a Sri Lankan/Australian fusion experience that caters to a wide range of tastes. The menu features much-loved Sri Lankan favourites alongside Western staples, making it approachable for first-time visitors while still delighting those seeking traditional flavours.
Guests often praise the restaurant’s warm hospitality, attention to detail, and clean, welcoming environment, elements that make each visit feel personal and memorable.
The Grand Monarque also opens early for breakfast and serves barista-made coffee, offering a space for locals to enjoy everything from a morning coffee to a relaxed meal later in the day.

Proud to call Boronia home
From day one, the owners felt embraced by the Boronia community. The strong sense of connection, support for local businesses, and appreciation of cultural diversity have made the suburb an ideal place to grow the restaurant.
In a short time, The Grand Monarque has become more than just a place to eat, it’s a neighbourhood gathering spot and a celebration of culture. Seeing families, regulars, and first-time visitors from all backgrounds connect through food has been incredibly rewarding.
Looking ahead
As The Grand Monarque continues to grow, the focus remains on refining the craft while staying true to its origins, delivering bold flavours, genuine hospitality, and an experience that feels both authentic and welcoming. For Chaminda and Naveen, the journey is still unfolding, one plate at a time.
